Absorbed-dose/dose-rate dependence studies for the alanine-EPR dosimetry system

چکیده
Over the course of the last decade, routine monitoring of the alanine dosimetry system revealed a small but significant observation that, after examination, led to the characterization of a previously unknown absorbed-dose-dependent, dose-rate effect for the alanine system. The newly discovered rate effect is of potential concern for electron-beam dosimetry, since electron-beam dosimetry typically derives its traceability to national standards through comparisons to gamma-ray calibrations of the dosimetry system. The largest discrepancy in source dose rates is between gamma-ray sources and electron-beam accelerators. Investigating the influence of temperature on the alanine rate effect is an important first step in preparation for a comparison study between electron-beam and gamma-ray dosimetry. Here, new data is presented on the influence of irradiation temperature (from 40 to +50 1C) on the dose-rate effect measured at 50 kGy. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

An Absorbed-Dose/Dose-Rate Dependence for the Alanine-EPR Dosimetry System and Its Implications in High-Dose Ionizing Radiation Metrology
NIST developed the alanine dosimetry system in the early 1990s to replace radiochromic dye film dosimeters. Later in the decade the alanine system was firmly established as a transfer service for high-dose radiation dosimetry and an integral part of the internal calibration scheme supporting these services. Over the course of the last decade, routine monitoring of the system revealed a small bu...

INTRODUCTION The increasing use of radiation sources of high activity for industrial and medical applications and in the generation of electric energy and the consequent increase in the probability of to occur accidents, becomes important the research and the development of detectors and dosimetry methods for quality control of the applied doses. The radiation dosimetry is important for all rad...
متن کاملLithium formate EPR dosimetry for accurate measurements of absorbed dose in radiotherapy
Lithium formate has shown to be a material with properties suitable for electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) dosimetry, among them up to 7 times higher sensitivity compared to alanine, which is a well-established EPR detector material for dose determinations in radiotherapy. The aim of this thesis was to further investigate the properties of lithium formate and develop the dosimetry system tow...
متن کاملRetrospective dosimetry using fingernail in nuclear industries: A review paper
Generally, doses greater than 2Gy can produce acute biological effects in humans. For this reason, to measure and record the cumulative dose, especially in radiation users, the need for a personal dosimeter has been strongly felt by the researchers. The purpose of this study is to introduce retrospective dosimetric techniques, in particular the use of nails as a natural tool for determining cum...
متن کاملAlanine-EPR dosimetry in 10 MeV electron beam to optimize process parameters for food irradiation
Absorbed dose in food product is determined and controlled by several parameters of the LINAC irradiation facility as well as those of the product. Standardization of the parameters characterizing the facility parameters, process load and the irradiation conditions collectively termed as ‘process parameters’ are important for successful dose delivery to the food products. In the present study, ...
